I’m sure everyone can agree with me that it takes courage to approach a group of strangers with the hope of making new friends. In September of 2013, I made the difficult decision to lay down my dream of biking to the ocean, and instead, decided to listen to God and go find my friends. So I went looking for a new church. I had my eyes set on one particular place called Church of the Rock. It was a pretty large church, much larger than the one I had grown up in. In fact, it was one of the largest in the city. Surely there must be someone my own age there, I thought to myself.

A Failed Bike Tour
The first time I left on a bike tour, I almost died. It was 2013, and I was having the worst summer of my life. I had just graduated university and I was so discouraged and over-worked that all I wanted to do was escape. I would stay up late at night dreaming of being free, alive, and as far away from my current surroundings as possible. In my mind that freedom was on a bicycle. A place where I could be outside all day, everyday, and be physically active from sunrise to sundown. I wanted to feel the distance between myself and my home. I wanted to feel every mile and every hill, and experience the world in a unique way. I would imagine myself cycling all the way to the ocean and then falling down on the beach exhausted.
